You will travel through lush green hills, winding rivers, and scenic countryside, gradually ascending to the higher altitudes of the Nepal-Tibet border. Upon reaching Kerung, a small border town at 3,000 meters above sea level, you will check into a guesthouse for an overnight stay. The remainder of the day is for rest and acclimatization, allowing your body to adjust to the altitude in preparation for the days ahead.

Day 2 Kerung/Kyirong to Paryang (4,700m) – 420 KM, Approx. 6 Hours

After breakfast, you will continue your journey from Kerung to Paryang, which lies at an altitude of 4,700 meters. This drive is a gateway to the sacred Mount Kailash and offers spectacular views of the Tibetan plateau’s vast, barren landscapes. The six-hour journey covers 420 kilometers, with plenty of opportunities to stop and admire the stunning scenery. Paryang is a small town, and your stay here will be in a simple guesthouse, where you will spend the night preparing for the spiritual experiences that await.

Day 3 Paryang to Mansarovar Lake (4,500m) – 280 KM, Approx. 5 Hours

On the third day, you will wake up early and set out for one of the holiest lakes in the world—Mansarovar Lake. The drive to the lake covers 280 kilometers and takes approximately five hours. Mansarovar Lake, situated at an altitude of 4,500 meters, is considered sacred by four major religions. Upon arrival, you will have the opportunity to take a holy bath in the lake’s pristine waters, believed to cleanse the soul of all sins. You can also perform puja (prayer rituals) by the lakeside, immersing yourself in the spiritual energy of this revered place. For those who wish to do the Kora (parikrama) around the lake, arrangements can be made, though it requires additional time and effort. After the day’s spiritual activities, you will stay overnight at a hotel near Mansarovar Lake.

Day 4 Mansarovar Lake to Darchen (4,650m) – 40 KM, Approx. 2 Hours

Your day begins with another opportunity to take a dip in the holy waters of Mansarovar Lake and perform further puja rituals. Afterward, you will embark on a short drive to Darchen, a small settlement at the base of Mount Kailash. Darchen serves as the starting point for the Kailash Kora (circumambulation), which is a significant part of the pilgrimage. The drive from Mansarovar Lake to Darchen is only 40 kilometers and takes about two hours, giving you plenty of time to rest and acclimatize in preparation for the upcoming trek. You will spend the night at a hotel in Darchen, where you can prepare your gear and get a good night’s sleep.

Day 5 Darchen to Yamadwar to Drirapuk (Kora Begins) – 4,900m, 20 KM, Approx. 9 Hours

The fifth day marks the beginning of the Kailash Kora, a spiritual trek around the sacred mountain. The Kora traditionally starts on the western edge of Darchen and is a 52-kilometer circuit completed over three days. The first leg of the trek takes you to Drirapuk, located at an altitude of 4,900 meters. The 20-kilometer journey takes about nine hours, with the trail gradually ascending through valleys and pastures. Although the trek is considered moderate, the high altitude makes it challenging, so it is recommended to start early in the morning. Along the way, you may hire a porter or yak to carry your belongings, allowing you to focus on the spiritual aspects of the pilgrimage. You will spend the night at a guesthouse in Drirapuk, with a stunning view of Mount Kailash’s north face.

Day 6 Drirapuk to Zutrulpuk via Drolma La Pass (Kora Continues) – 4,760m, 18 KM, Approx. 8 Hours

The second day of the Kora is the most challenging and rewarding part of the pilgrimage. You will ascend to the Drolma La Pass, the highest point on the Kora, standing at 5,630 meters. The 18-kilometer trek takes about eight hours and involves a steep ascent followed by a descent. The thin air and strong winds at the pass require extra caution, so it is advisable not to linger too long at the top. As you descend, you will pass by Gaurikunda, a sacred pond associated with Hindu mythology. The trail continues downhill, leading to the banks of the Lham-chu Khir River, and eventually, you will reach Zutrulpuk, known for its famous “miracle cave” associated with Milarepa, a revered Tibetan saint. Along the way, you will also see the Buddha’s Footprints, adding to the spiritual significance of the journey. Overnight at a guesthouse in Zutrulpuk.

Day 7 Zutrulpuk to Saga (Kora Ends) – 4,640m, 500 KM, Approx. 9 Hours

Your final day of the Kailash Kora begins with a morning visit to the caves and temples near Zutrulpuk. After breakfast, you will complete the last leg of the Kora with a three- to four-hour trek back to the starting point. The sense of accomplishment and spiritual fulfillment as you complete the Kora is profound. After finishing the trek, you will drive back to Saga, covering a distance of 500 kilometers in about nine hours. The drive offers a chance to relax and reflect on the spiritual journey you’ve undertaken. Upon arrival in Saga, you will check into a hotel for an overnight stay.

Day 8 Saga to Kerung (3,000m) – 170 KM, Approx. 5 Hours

The eighth day of your tour takes you back to the border town of Kerung. The 170-kilometer drive takes approximately five hours, with the smooth Tibetan roads making for a comfortable journey. Upon reaching Kerung, you can spend the remainder of the day at leisure, relaxing and enjoying the serene surroundings. You will stay overnight at a guesthouse in Kerung, reflecting on the incredible experiences of the past week.

Day 9 Kerung to Kathmandu (1,400m) – 180 KM, Approx. 8 Hours

On the final day of your Kailash tour, you will complete the immigration formalities at the Nepal-Tibet border before saying goodbye to your Tibetan guides and team. The drive back to Kathmandu covers 180 kilometers and takes about eight hours. As you descend from the high-altitude Tibetan plateau back into the lush valleys of Nepal, you will have time to reflect on the spiritual journey you’ve completed. Kailash Tour Package: A Spiritual Odyssey to the Sacred Mount Kailash

Mount Kailash, standing majestically at 6,638 meters in the remote reaches of Western Tibet, is not just a mountain—it is a sacred pilgrimage site revered by millions of people across several religions. For Hindus, it is the abode of Lord Shiva; for Buddhists, it is the home of Demchok, a representation of supreme bliss; Jains believe it to be the place where their first Tirthankara attained liberation, and for Bon followers, it is the site of spiritual power. Embarking on a journey to Mount Kailash is more than just a travel experience; it is a deeply spiritual quest that challenges the body, mind, and soul.

The Journey Begins: From Kathmandu to Kerung

The Kailash Tour Package begins in Kathmandu, the vibrant capital of Nepal. Nestled in the heart of the Himalayas, Kathmandu serves as the perfect starting point for this spiritual odyssey. The journey commences with a scenic drive from Kathmandu to the Nepal-Tibet border town of Kerung. This part of the journey is a visual feast, offering views of lush green hills, terraced fields, and the winding Trishuli River. As you ascend to higher altitudes, the landscape gradually changes, revealing the rugged beauty of the Tibetan plateau. Kerung, located at an altitude of 3,000 meters, serves as the first stop on this journey, offering an opportunity to acclimatize to the increasing altitude.

Crossing into Tibet: The Road to Paryang

From Kerung, the journey continues deeper into Tibet, heading towards Paryang. This drive takes you across vast stretches of the Tibetan plateau, where the landscape is stark yet stunningly beautiful. The high-altitude desert, dotted with nomadic tents and grazing yaks, is a reminder of the remoteness and isolation of this region. Paryang, at an altitude of 4,700 meters, is the gateway to Mount Kailash. The thin air and vast open spaces of the plateau create a sense of being closer to the heavens, setting the tone for the spiritual experiences that lie ahead.

Mansarovar Lake: A Sacred Encounter

One of the most significant highlights of this journey is the visit to Mansarovar Lake, considered one of the holiest lakes in the world. Located at an altitude of 4,500 meters, Mansarovar Lake is believed to be the source of purity, and taking a dip in its icy waters is said to cleanse the soul of all sins. For pilgrims, this is a deeply moving experience, a moment of spiritual purification that is both humbling and uplifting. The crystal-clear waters of the lake reflect the surrounding snow-capped peaks, creating a scene of unparalleled beauty. The lake is also an important site for conducting rituals and prayers, with pilgrims often spending hours in meditation and contemplation by its shores.

Darchen: The Gateway to Kailash

After the spiritual immersion at Mansarovar Lake, the journey continues to Darchen, a small settlement located at the base of Mount Kailash. Darchen is the starting point of the Kailash Kora, a 52-kilometer circumambulation around the sacred mountain. The Kora is considered one of the most important spiritual practices in the region, believed to cleanse the sins of a lifetime and bring about spiritual liberation. Pilgrims from all over the world come to Darchen to begin this arduous trek, driven by their faith and the desire for spiritual redemption.

The Kailash Kora: A Test of Faith and Endurance

The Kailash Kora is not just a physical trek; it is a profound spiritual journey that tests both the body and the spirit. The trek is typically completed over three days, with each day presenting its own unique challenges and rewards. The path is rugged and demanding, winding through high-altitude passes, rocky terrain, and desolate valleys. Despite the physical hardships, the Kora is undertaken with a deep sense of reverence and devotion.

On the first day, the trek takes pilgrims from Darchen to Drirapuk, a distance of about 20 kilometers. This leg of the journey offers stunning views of the north face of Mount Kailash, a sight that inspires awe and reverence. The terrain is relatively gentle, with gradual ascents and descents, allowing pilgrims to acclimatize to the altitude and prepare for the more challenging days ahead.

Kailash Tour Package

The second day of the Kora is the most demanding, as it involves crossing the Drolma La Pass, the highest point on the trek at 5,630 meters. The ascent to the pass is steep and challenging, with thin air and strong winds adding to the difficulty. However, the sense of achievement upon reaching the pass is indescribable. The pass is adorned with prayer flags, and many pilgrims pause here to offer prayers and seek blessings. The descent from the pass is equally challenging, leading to the sacred Gaurikunda Lake, a site of immense religious significance.

The final day of the Kora is a relatively easier trek, taking pilgrims through the Zutrulpuk Valley, known for its spiritual significance and natural beauty. The valley is home to several sacred sites, including caves and temples associated with Tibetan saints and spiritual leaders. The trek concludes with a return to Darchen, marking the end of the Kailash Kora. Pilgrims often describe a deep sense of spiritual fulfillment and inner peace upon completing the Kora, as if they have undergone a profound transformation.

Return Journey: Reflections and Reverence

After completing the Kailash Kora, the journey back to Kathmandu begins, retracing the steps through the Tibetan plateau and crossing the Nepal-Tibet border once again. The return journey offers time for reflection, as pilgrims look back on the experiences and challenges of the past days. The stark beauty of the Tibetan landscape, the spiritual energy of Mount Kailash, and the shared experiences with fellow pilgrims all leave a lasting impression, making this journey a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

The final leg of the journey takes you back to Kathmandu, where the vibrant streets and ancient temples provide a stark contrast to the serene and remote landscapes of Tibet. Here, the journey concludes, but the memories and spiritual insights gained during the Kailash Tour remain with you forever.
