We will have breakfast and then depart for Chamje. Through the window of your vehicle, you may enjoy the stunning sights of waterfalls that are crashing against rocks. Following that, we will follow the Marsyangdi River up to Jagat before crossing it across on an open suspension bridge. We’ll need to ascend to Chame after we get to Jagat. Spend the night at the BLD guesthouse.
1,410 metres in altitude
Four hours of driving
After travelling by car from Chamje to Chame, we will begin our hike in the direction of Pisang. We set out on our journey. With the gorgeous Lamjung Himal (6893m) in the early light. We walk up the hill to the valley, past a large apple orchard, and the mountain vanishes. Onward through a forest of fir and pine, where the other bank becomes a blocked cliff, and we rise to a high, stony place. After a brief ascent from the settlement to a rocky area, where we cross a wooden bridge and follow a high, winding trail before crossing back to the right bank again, the valley becomes incredibly steep-sided as we pursue the path to Bhratang (2950m). Now, as we go through a pine forest, the valley opens up into a beautiful perspective as the forest ends and the lower settlement of Pisang and a long Mani wall near a bridge are seen. We are going to spend the night at the Pisang Lodge.
3,300 metres is the altitude
Travel Time: four to five hours
Walking Duration: 5–6 hours
Following breakfast in the morning, we begin our hiking by ascending to a difficult ridge that offers excellent views of the Manang valley and Tilicho Peak (7145m). It will take about six or seven hours to go to Manang. The steep walk passes through pine forests to viewpoints of the small turquoise lake. With views of painted Mandalas and fabled serpent mouth gushes, the walk completes a dogleg through the enticing town. Scale the meadows filled with grazing yaks and an assortment of crops. To reach Ngawal (3660m), the trail crosses a precarious border-right section of the Marsyangdi River; yet, this is one of the most remarkable viewpoints of the entire Annapurna region and the Marsyangdi stream valley. Past this, we across the drastically diminished course of the Marsyangdi Khola through a timber-framed bridge, arriving at the minuscule village of Mungji. While travelling, we pass villages like Braga, pine timberlands, and porches being cultivated. The massive Tibetan text Manang provides excellent insights for trekking in Annapurna II, III, and IV. We’re going to spend the night there.
Elevation: 3,519 metres
Walking Duration: 7-8 hours
We wander across town today. Prior to the next hiking day, this is a crucial day of recuperation and acclimatisation. There are optional day excursions available, such as crossing the river to witness the breathtaking icefall that cascades from the Annapurnas or ascending well beyond the village to get a comprehensive view of the Manang Valley and the Annapurna range. The community also has an aid station run by the Himalayan Rescue Association [HRA], which is a worthwhile and instructive visit. In addition, you can spend the night in Manang and visit Gangapurna Glacier Lake to make the most of your rest day.
Elevation: 3,519 metres
We will travel to the Khangsar today after getting ready and eating breakfast. After Manang, this town is the final one. Khangsar is a conglomeration of traditional stone buildings encircling a spacious town square. A small religious community affiliated with Sakyapa School is located near the town’s highest point. The world’s highest lake, Tilicho Lake, is accessible from this town. It’s the ideal old town. You will arrive at Khangsar Village after crossing the divider and the Khangsar River. The trip is not too long. You will enjoy delectable regional cuisine while spending the night at Khangsar Village.
3,760 metres above sea level
Four hours for walking
From the western pass, we shall proceed down a vast trail, going by a Gompa (monastery). The way ahead ascends to a high point via a recently built path. There is an intersection at one site. One trail stays high, winding around the hills to a point where the valley narrows, while the other keeps going uphill to the ridge’s edge. The latter is the new path that takes a completely different route; the former is the old trail and is considerably more challenging because it goes on a fairly vertical screed. Proceed on the newly created path, arrive at a tall summit, and then make your way down by steep switchbacks cut into the basalt slopes to a secondary valley within the main valley. There’s a creek at the bottom. At 4,200 metres above sea level, a structure known as the Tilicho Base Camp is located on the other side of it. After that, we’ll trek to Tilicho Lake the same day. Trekking along an icy moraine, you can see Khangsar Peak, Muktinath, Tilicho, and Mount Nilgiri. Once you are close to the lake, it won’t take more than a few minutes to enjoy the view of this wonderful body of water. The lake is also known as the “Frozen Lake” since it remains frozen for the most part of the year. You can take a lot of photos of the surrounding scenery. After spending some time here, you’ll go back to the Tilicho Base Camp with a lot of memories that you made while you were out at Tilicho Lake.
4,200 metres at Tilicho Base Camp and 4,919 metres at Tilicho Lake are the altitudes.
Walk time: 4–6 hours from Tilicho Base Camp in Khangsar and 5–6 hours from Tilicho Base Camp in Tilicho Lake
Following our trek and overnight stay at the picturesque Tilicho Lake, we will set off on our journey to return home full of unforgettable experiences. We will begin our day after eating breakfast in the morning. This is a challenging day of the adventure, as we will be crossing two high passes early in the morning, climbing a steep slope through the high Tilicho pass, then descending quickly to the base of the Mesokanta La pass. After a brief break, we will climb the final pass over Mesokanta-la, which is 5,099 metres high and has breathtaking views of the surrounding high peaks. The trail climbs higher and higher as it leaves the Marsyangdi Valley. The trail climbs slowly northward up this valley, passing a Goth. The massive trees below have been left behind; instead, alpine grasses and scrub juniper now make up the vegetation. This will take you around and down to the old log bridge that spans the river between Yak Kharka and Gunsang. Seeing the big yaks graze at Yak Kharka is entertaining. There is an amazing vista of Annapurna III. We are going to spend the night in Yak Kharka.
Elevation: 4,035 metres
Walking Duration: Five Hours
This is the last day of our hike through these amazing mountains; after eating breakfast and reading a bit, we will head towards Jomsom. To get there, we will travel along the Kagbeni or Lupra trail. We will walk to Jomsom today along the Kali Gandaki River. Jomsom is a tiny, blustery village in a chilly valley. You can enjoy breathtaking views of the damp hills and Tilicho Mountain that will stick in your memory. Spend the night in Jomsom and sample some of the local cuisine and beverages.
