Itinerary

Day 1 Fly from Kathmandu (1300m) to Nepalgunj

Peak Elevation: 152 metres

We will transport you to the airport for a quick, picturesque flight to Nepalgunj on the first day of the Jumla Rara Lake Trek. Amazing views of mountains, forests, river valleys, monuments, hills, and city lights may be seen during the hour-long journey. You’ll be lodging in the Nepalgunj hotel. You can tour the area and take in the day or night with its support.

Day 2 Fly to Jumla (2370m) and then trek to Danphe Lagna

Top Altitude: 3,500 metres

We will take you to the airport for a quick, picturesque flight to Jumla on this day of your Jumla Rara Lake Trekking tour. Jumla is thirty minutes away. You will be able to take in the breathtaking scenery of rivers, forests, and mountains as you travel. Upon arriving at Jumla, we start our walk towards Uthugaon. The trail travels through breathtaking scenery as it leads to Uthugaon. Trekking takes about three to four hours to reach the destination. Danphe Lagna is where you spend the night.

Day 3 Danphe Lagna to Dhotu

Peak Elevation: 2380 metres

We begin our walk today by descending a steep slope and going through forests of fir, birch, walnut and bamboo. We march downstream along the river after stepping over the bridge, passing by a few water mills until arriving in Kabra. The source of Shilajit, a mineral with therapeutic qualities, is a massive overhanging rock in Kabra. We now begin and end our difficult ascent at Bhara village. Once more, we begin our descent to the Chauro Khola River and the Chautha settlement. Following the stream uphill, we rise to Bhulbule, the Rara National Park Entrance Station at 3130 metres. From there, we climb to Ghurchi Lagna Pass, which is covered with prayer flags and chortens, which are round stone Buddhist monuments, at 3450 metres. Once more, the descent begins gradually before dropping down sharply into the spruce forest. Considering that the trial will take almost ten hours to finish, today is the most demanding. We arrive at Dhotu at last and spend the night in a tented camp.

Day 4 Dhotu to Rara Lake

Top Altitude: 2980 metres

Today is the day that we will ultimately arrive at Rara Lake, the most breathtaking location of our entire journey. From Dhotu, it’s a quick and enjoyable walk across the steep north-facing slope and down a succession of fields to a tiny brook. After crossing the bridge, we hike up to the Thakuri village of Jhyari. From Jhyari, we make a sharp upward climb through the lovely Ceder forest to a vast meadow on a ridge, offering a stunning overhead view of Rara Lake. Today, it will take us around five hours of walking to arrive to our goal. Spend the night in a tent camp.

Day 5 Rest day at Rara Lake

Top Altitude: 2980 metres

Today, we relax and explore the area around Rara Lake, the largest lake in Nepal, which spans about 13 km2 and was declared a national park in 1975. In contrast to other parts of Nepal, this area is secluded and provides a nature experience where wildlife, flowers, and birds abound. Bears, Serows, Ghorals, Musk Deer, Red Pandas, and both Rhesus and Langur monkeys are among the creatures that call this region home. The lake serves as a refuelling stop for migrating ducks and provides habitat for otters. Spend the night in a tent camp.

Day 6 Rara Lake to Gorusingha

Top Altitude: 3190 metres

We begin our trial today in the camp proper after breakfast. Our trial, which follows the Khatyar Khola River, will take five to six hours to finish. We will drop gradually along the river before ascending a hill. This walk goes through an area that is encircled by forests of rhododendron, pine, and spruce. We continue on our path, entering the Ghatta Valley and travelling in the direction of Gorusingha, a tiny village. Spend the night in a tent camp.

Day 7 Gorusingha to Sinja

Peak Elevation: 24,40 metres

We continue on from Gorusingha, following the Sinja Khola River all the way to Sinja through the Ghatta valley. It will take us roughly six hours of walking from Gorusingha to Sinja. The Malla Dynasty, which controlled western Nepal, had Sinja as its capital from the 12th to the 14th century. Across the river, ancient, historic palaces are falling apart. Additionally, there is a fascinating temple honouring the goddess Bhagwati, also referred to as the tigress-riding goddess of justice. Spend the night in a tent camp.

Day 8 Sinja to Jaljila Chaur

Top Elevation: 3270 metres

Currently, a wooden cantilever bridge spans the Sinja Khola to connect the route. Following a few small villages, the trail uses a succession of charming log bridges to cross the river back and forth. The majority of the journey is through fields of grain and barley as well as a forest of pine, birch and oak. After that, the trail climbs steeply to our objective for the day, Jaljala Chaur, a vast meadow teeming with horses. After walking across the stunning countryside for seven hours, the adventure is over for this day. Spend the night in a tent camp.

Day 9 Jaljila Chaur to Jumla

Peak Elevation: 2370 metres

This trail descends to Jumla across a pleasant forest to another meadow situated immediately below the ridge at a height of 3510 metres. Travelling from Jaljila Chaur to Jumla will take approximately 5 to 6 hours. Spend the night in a tent camp.

Day 10 Jumla to Nepalgunj, fly to Kathmandu

After waking up early and eating breakfast, you take a scenic 40-minute flight to Nepalgunj, passing over the Himalayan foothills and offering breathtaking views of snow-capped peaks and mountains. Once you reach Nepalgunj, there will be multiple options available to you based on the connecting flight to Kathmandu. In the event that it is afternoon, we will have time to enjoy a snack in a cosy Nepalgunj hotel before connecting with the Kathmandu flight. However, if there isn’t enough time, we will fly straight from Nepalgunj to Kathmandu as soon as we arrive. You will be taken to your accommodation in Kathmandu safely once you arrive.

Trip Overview

Jumla Rara Lake Trekking

The most ambitious off-beaten trip in Nepal, Jumla Rara Lake Trekking offers breathtaking views of the magnificent natural splendour found inside Rara National Park. Its main draws are the remote, mountainous villages, the untamed subtropical forests, and the people’s nomadic way of life.

The smallest national park in Nepal is called Rara National Park. It is situated in the western Nepalese district of Mugu at an elevation of 2990 metres, covering a total area of 10.8 square kilometres. Although road transit is still the primary obstacle, this walk may be completed all year round.

Wonderful account of Rara Lake by Bill Greer, the founder of GORP “A sparkling blue gem encircled by snow-capped peaks”

500 varieties of blooming flowers (such as the national flower, rhododendron, oak, black juniper, west Himalayan spruce, and Himalayan cypress, fir, and birch), 214 species of birds (such as Himalayan snowcock, chukar partridge, and kalij), 20 species of mammals (such as red pandas, snow leopards, and musk deer), and other species like reptiles and amphibians are among the magnificent quantities of vegetation and wilderness that can be found during the Rara Lake Trek.

The name “Queen of Lakes” refers to Rara Lake itself. It is Nepal’s largest and deepest freshwater lake. All of these specialties, which are not found in any other part of Nepal, are encompassed by the hiking route. The welcoming locals, who are primarily Tibetan families and Hindus, are also the key draws.
