Established in 1973 A.D., Chitwan National Park is one of Nepal’s oldest and first national parks, with a total area of 932 square kilometres. The UNESCO World Heritage List has inscribed Chitwan National Park because of its exceptional biodiversity and fauna. More than 500 different species of birds and more than 700 different types of fauna call it home. Mammals include the one-horned rhinoceros, Bengal tiger, hog deer, leopard, sloth bear, and golden fox. There are numerous bird species in this area, including the thin-billed bubbler, Gray-crowned Prinia, and swamp francolin. The distance from the East-West Highway is 158.7 km (5 hours 33 minutes), and from the Prithivi Highway is 170.4 km (5 hours 56 minutes).
One of the most well-liked and daring methods to see hundreds of different species of birds and reptiles, as well as the one-horned rhinoceros and Royal Bengal Tiger, is on an elephant safari. To make your tour more meaningful and entertaining, knowledgeable mahouts will take you deeper into the jungle, giving you more opportunities to see animals at their closest range.
In Chitwan National Park, visitors who prefer not to ride the majestic tuskers can take a Jeep jungle safari. Visitors can get a close-up look at the endangered species, plants, and animals in their natural habitat by travelling in open jeeps. The jeep journey will also take you to the Cranial Crocodile Breeding Centre in the Kasara headquarters of Chitwan National Park, where you can watch tortoises, gharials, and marsh crocodiles breed.
The first choice is a quick safari that can accommodate up to 7 people in a jeep and lasts for roughly 4 hours. The jeep will be seated next to you behind. The safari is scheduled to begin at 1:00 PM and end at 5:00 PM.
A full-day safari is the second choice; for this, a private car and a more luxurious jeep with nice seats are provided. The adventure will begin early in the morning and conclude with a quick drive. You will venture into the heart of the forest on this journey, giving you the opportunity to view tigers.
Chitwan National Park is home to one of the world’s two elephant breeding facilities. In Nepal, elephants are also facing extinction, thus this centre aims to boost the number of these animals. You may see more elephants and their calves and learn about initiatives to increase the pachyderm population by visiting the breeding centre.
A canoe journey is the ideal way to spend your time in Chitwan if you’re just visiting. Additionally, after spending a few days discovering nature, this is a fantastic chance to refocus. You can paddle a canoe across the banks of rivers that are home to gorgeous birds and crocodiles at a leisurely pace. A guide will accompany you on the excursion and provide you with information about the animals. A boat driver comes along for the voyage, so you don’t have to pedal yourself.
Not just the wildlife, birds, and woodland landscapes make Chitwan National Park special. Native American groups, Tharus are also quite interesting. You will be accompanied by a qualified guide or knowledgeable naturalist who will provide you with information about the Tharu way of life.
Another feature of this visit will be the Tharus cultural programme. The Tharus, clad in vibrant traditional garb, will enthral you with their variations on regional garb from throughout Nepal. They’ll put on an incredibly captivating and appealing cultural programme.
Your visit to Sauraha will also include a thrilling swim and bathe with the elephants in the Rapti River. In the deep waters of the Rapti River, where you can dive and dip as you choose, you can enjoy yourself with the antics of the playful elephants.
One of the fascinating and entertaining tours offered by Jeep Safaris in Chitwan National Park is the Crocodile Breeding Centre. Chitwan National Park has become aware of the endangered programme. It is situated in an area away from the throng, around 20 to 30 minutes away. Witnessing the crocodile’s life cycle from egg to adulthood will be an opportunity for you.
