Trip Overview

Bungee Jumping

Bungee jumping in Nepal is an adventure activity for those who enjoy taking risks, and Nepal is an ideal location for the jump due to the country’s abundance of naturally created Bungee sites. The most popular Bungee Jumping spots in Nepal are “The Last Resort” suspension bridge on the Bhote Koshi river near the Nepal-Tibet border and Hemja village near Pokhara. Pokhara bungee leaping is the highest bungee for reaching the water in the world, with an elevation of 75m, while bungee at the suspension bridge in Bhotekoshi is the world’s second highest bungee jump site, with an elevation of 160m. The processes and techniques of this sport are the same in both locations, with the exception that in Pokhara, you dive into an 18/20 meter deep pond, but in Bhotekoshi, you dive directly into a canyon.

Bungee leaping is also known as “Bungy” jumping in New Zealand and other nations. It is an activity that involves jumping from a lofty fixed structure while attached to a large elastic line. Bungee jumping offers thrills such as free-falling and rebounding. The elastic cord expands, and the adventurer rises again as the cord recoils, and the oscillation up and down continues owing to kinetic energy.

In addition to trekking, peak climbing, and tours, Nepal is well-known for its spectacular one-day adventure excursions. Bungee jumping, zip lining, and paragliding, like other adventure activities, are becoming increasingly popular among international and domestic travelers looking for something new and exciting in their lives.

Equipment used in Bungee Jumping

Bungee jumping involves the use of an elastic rope. The particular cord is made up of several latex strands that are encased in a strong outer cover. The latex is pre-stressed when applied to the outer cover, thus the cord resistance to extension is already significant at the cord’s natural length. The cover of latex provides a harder and sharper bounce to the chord.

Safety and Possible Injuries During Bungee Jumping

Injury occurs only when the safety harness fails, the cord length is incorrectly calculated, or the cord is not securely linked to the jump platform. We have a record of such failures, including Michael Lush’s death in 1986 as a result of many injuries sustained while doing the stunt on a BBC television program. Despite safety precautions, injuries occur as a result of the sudden increase in upper body intravascular pressure during bungee cord recoil. Damage to one’s vision is another big issue that is commonly observed.

Whiplash injuries are other serious injuries that can occur when a jumper is jolted by a bungee cord, and in extreme cases, it has resulted in quadriplegia due to a fractured neck. Another significant hazard that might arise is when the jumper’s neck or body becomes entangled in the cord. Recently, choking during bungee jumping has been reported, which is caused by carotid artery dissection, resulting in a sort of stroke. All of these injuries have been observed in physically and intellectually fit people in their early years. This sport is also known to cause an increase in stress and a decline in immunological function.
