Your adventure begins with your arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) in Kathmandu. Upon landing, you are greeted with the vibrant chaos and cultural richness of Nepal’s capital. As you exit the airport, the sight of bustling streets, colorful prayer flags, and the distant silhouette of the Himalayas welcomes you. A representative from your trekking company will meet you and transfer you to your hotel. This initial day is all about settling in and acclimatizing to the new environment. The evening is typically free for you to rest or explore the local area. Thamel, a popular tourist hub, is an excellent place to book a family-friendly hotel and access a range of amenities, including local eateries, shops, and cultural sites.
On the second day, you have the option to explore the UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Kathmandu. This sightseeing tour offers a deep dive into the rich cultural and historical tapestry of the city. The tour typically includes visits to Pashupatinath Temple, a sacred Hindu shrine; Boudhanath Stupa, one of the largest stupas in Nepal; Swayambhunath (Monkey Temple), known for its panoramic views of the Kathmandu Valley; and Kathmandu Durbar Square, a historical palace complex. Each site offers a unique glimpse into Nepal’s spiritual and cultural heritage, setting a fascinating backdrop for the trekking adventure ahead.
On the third day, the real trekking adventure begins. After an early breakfast, you will drive to Sundarijal, a scenic village on the outskirts of Kathmandu. Upon reaching Sundarijal, you will commence your trek to Chisapani. The fifth day marks a significant ascent as you trek from Kutumsang to Thadepati, located at an altitude of 3,650 meters. The trek is characterized by dense forests of rhododendron, oak, and pine, interspersed with small settlements and grazing pastures. Thadepati is a high-altitude settlement offering panoramic views of the Langtang and Gosaikunda ranges. On the sixth day, you will descend from Thadepati to Tarkeghyang, a beautiful Sherpa village located at an altitude of 2,560 meters. Tarkeghyang, also known as Helambu‘s cultural hub, is home to ancient monasteries and traditional Sherpa houses. The village is renowned for its apple orchards and intricate wood carvings. The seventh day takes you from Tarkeghyang to Sermathang, another culturally rich village in the Helambu region. Situated at an altitude of 2,610 meters, Sermathang is known for its stunning views of the Himalayas and its vibrant local culture. The trail to Sermathang is relatively gentle, passing through forests, terraced fields, and small villages. Along the way, you will encounter local farmers tending to their crops and children playing in the fields. Sermathang is a beautiful village with ancient monasteries, traditional houses, and friendly locals. It offers a perfect blend of natural beauty and cultural richness, making it an ideal place to relax and soak in the tranquil ambiance.
The eighth day marks the final leg of your trekking adventure. After breakfast, you will trek from Sermathang to Melamchi Pul Bazaar, a bustling market town located at the edge of the Helambu region. The trail descends through terraced fields, forests, and traditional villages, offering a last glimpse of the stunning landscapes and local culture. Upon reaching Melamchi Pul Bazaar, you will be picked up and driven back to Kathmandu. The drive back to the capital provides an opportunity to reflect on your trekking adventure and enjoy the scenic beauty of rural Nepal. Once back in Kathmandu, you will be transferred to your hotel for a well-deserved rest.
On the ninth day, you have a free day to explore Kathmandu at your leisure. This is an excellent opportunity to indulge in some shopping, visit local markets, and explore additional cultural sites. Thamel, with its vibrant streets, shops, and restaurants, is a great place to find souvenirs and enjoy the local cuisine. You can also visit other significant landmarks such as the Garden of Dreams, Patan Durbar Square, or Bhaktapur Durbar Square. This day of leisure allows you to unwind and savor the memories of your trekking adventure.
On the tenth and final day, it’s time to bid farewell to Nepal. After breakfast, you will be transferred to Tribhuvan International Airport for your departure flight. The drive to the airport provides a last look at the bustling city of Kathmandu and the surrounding landscapes. As you board your flight, you carry with you the memories of an unforgettable trekking adventure, the stunning Himalayan views, and the warm hospitality of the Nepali people.
