From Chhukung, your journey to Island Peak will begin. This Sherpa village is where you’ll meet your excursion crew and leader. After assessing the supplies and equipment, the crew heads for Island Peak Base Camp, where they will conduct pre-climb training.
Our knowledgeable climbing Sherpa will demonstrate how to use the gear and let you to try it out. You practise abseiling and rappelling with a harness, rope, ascenders and descenders while under his supervision.
The pre-climb training will surely boost the confidence of rookie climbers, as the way to Island Peak involves some difficult technical sections. You’ll be staying at a local teahouse in Chhukung. A single one-person tent will be provided for each guest staying at Island Peak Base Camp and High Camp. The campground has a lavatory tent, a one-person sleeping tent and a dining tent with seats and a table so you may eat comfortably.
We provide mats, but you need bring your own sleeping bag. Bring a five-season sleeping bag because the nights could turn chilly.
Note: If you don’t have any ideas for packing lists, our instructions will help you arrange your stuff before you begin the climb. Bring the basic materials with you, and the rest of the technical equipment can be rented there.
Only government-approved trekking agencies are eligible for an Island Peak Climbing Permit. To climb Island Peak, you must make your trip arrangements through a registered firm, such as Nepal Trek Adventure.
Individuals can apply for hiking permits individually, but peak climbing licences are only issued to expedition groups.
Travel insurance is required to obtain a permit for peak climbing. Purchasing insurance that covers high-altitude emergency rescue and evacuation is strongly recommended. When you reach a height of 6189 metres, your insurance should cover you up to that altitude. Furthermore, the insurance must cover medical bills, flight delays, lost luggage, accidents, and so on.
