Steep climbs and descents make the ride more challenging, and circumstances can change quickly. Travellers should be ready for lengthy road trips, dust storms, and sporadic landslides. As the trek ascends, altitude sickness becomes a potential worry that necessitates appropriate acclimatisation. For those looking for a distinctive and demanding experience, the road journey is a rewarding excursion because it provides breathtaking vistas of the Himalayas despite its challenges.

Everest Base Camp Trek By Drive Vs Flight

It’s similar to having to decide between a quick flight and an exciting road trip while deciding how to travel to Everest Base Camp. Flying to Lukla is easy but not always straightforward. Due to the restricted number of seats and the morning flight schedule, reservations are essential. But flights are frequently cancelled or delayed due to the unpredictable nature of mountain weather.

The car drive, on the other hand, is more pleasant and safe, although it takes a little longer. Enjoy the shifting vistas, which range from verdant hills to mountainous regions. Additionally, spending more time on the road allows you to visit nearby communities and learn about the other ethnic groups’ cultures.

Since Lukla is located so high up, you may be more prone to altitude sickness if you travel there by plane. However, a road trip involves a steady ascent, which aids in physiological adjustment and lowers the chance of altitude sickness. Taking the road is also more economical, particularly if you’re travelling with others. However, the price may differ based on your chosen itinerary, mode of transportation, and any additional excursions. Therefore, both short flights and leisurely car trips have advantages and disadvantages!

After the trip starts, you’ll spend the most of your time at authentic teahouses along the trail, which provide cosy rooms with simple furniture. Each teahouse maintains a cosy ambiance, offering an opportunity to experience hospitality from the locals, even if comfort levels may differ. Trekkers are more likely to feel connected to one another and to share experiences and make new friends in communal meal spaces.

When it comes to restrooms throughout the hike, teahouses often include communal restrooms with standard amenities like hot showers. These facilities, however basic in design, follow strict hygienic guidelines to provide a clean and hygienic atmosphere.

The further you go into the Everest zone, particularly above Lobuche, the more rudimentary the teahouses get because of the harsher terrain. Even though they are basic, these lodgings provide a distinctive and genuine experience that lets you fully appreciate the Himalayas’ unspoiled grandeur.

In addition, the community eating areas in the teahouses offer a wonderful chance to meet and bond with other hikers while enjoying a hot meal.
