This journey takes you through the secluded and mystically enchanting region of Upper Mustang, renowned for its impenetrable culture, historical monasteries, and the last forbidden kingdom of Nepal, Lo Manthang. Upper Mustang’s unique position along the border with Tibet provides a fascinating insight into Buddhist culture and stunning landscapes, including the famous Gorge Valley and its rich uranium deposits.

The adventure begins with your arrival in Kathmandu, where you’ll be greeted and transferred to your hotel. The next day is dedicated to a full-day guided sightseeing tour of Kathmandu, covering significant UNESCO World Heritage sites like Pashupatinath Temple, Boudhanath Stupa, and Swayambhunath Stupa. These locations offer a profound glimpse into Nepal’s rich religious and cultural heritage.

On the third day, the journey takes you westward towards Pokhara, either by a scenic bus ride through mountain roads or a quick flight. Pokhara, a serene city by the lake, provides a refreshing break with opportunities to explore its beauty and vibrant atmosphere. The following morning, a flight to Jomsom brings you to the starting point of your trek.

The trek begins from Jomsom, following the Kali Gandaki River’s bank to reach Kagbeni, an ancient settlement of Tibetan Buddhist people. From Kagbeni, the trek proceeds into the restricted region of Upper Mustang, requiring a special trekking permit. The route from Kagbeni to Chele offers breathtaking views of the Kali Gandaki River gorge and the surrounding landscapes. The journey continues to Syanbochen via the beautiful yet challenging Chungsi cave route, offering stunning views of Mount Dhaulagiri and Nilgiri.

From Syanbochen, the trek takes you to Ghami, crossing the Nyi La Pass at 4,010 meters and descending to the Ghyami La Pass. Ghami is known for its long Mani wall, a significant cultural and religious site. The next destination, Tsarang (Charang), presents an opportunity to explore a historical monastery and enjoy the beautiful valley landscape. The trek to Lo-Manthang, the ultimate destination, is a cultural highlight. This ancient, walled city offers an extraordinary insight into Tibetan-influenced culture, with narrow alleyways, prayer wheels, and fluttering prayer flags.
