One adventure activity in Pokhara that can give you the feeling of being a bird soaring through the sky is hot air ballooning. Ballooning in Nepal provides breathtaking views of the Pokhara city lake, the Himalayan peaks and ranges, and the gorgeous sunrise. Only Pokhara, the city of lakes and caves, is used for it.
Pokhara is 204.4 km from Kathmandu and can be reached in about 6 hours by car. Alternatively, you can take a 30-minute scenic flight to get there. The balloon journey will then depart from Dhanpus or Lauruk, where you can make a transfer.
The practice of hot air ballooning was formerly popular but was later discontinued for several reasons. However, it has already resumed with a bang, offering the opportunity to fly five times a day. That is, balloons are allowed to fly five times a day (though at first they will only fly twice, in the morning and afternoon).
The beautiful view of the Annapurna range, Fishtail (Machhapuchhre), Dhaulagiri, Hiunchuli, Lamjung Himal, lakes, woods, and the entire valley will be available as it soars 500 metres above Pokhara city. The observed scene is still far more stunning on a clear day. The Mardi River bank is where the balloon landing occurs.
With the exception of the monsoon season months of June, July, and August, the ideal months to take a hot air balloon ride are September, October, November, December, January, February, March, April, and May. During these months, flights occur every day, but they also rely on the wind and how it blows over the valley—either eastward or westward.
While many mountain flights and aircraft motions are recommended, hot air ballooning is a far more promising option because you will be in a basket and able to take in the scenery while floating in the air.
