Combining the popular Thorong La Pass on the Annapurna Circuit with the less well-known Nar Phu trip, the Kang La Pass trek with the Thorong La is an amazing trek. This incredible eighteen-day walk passes across two distinct, yet equally fascinating, landscapes and cultures.
The distant and seldom-visited Nar and Phu valleys are traversed by the Nar Phu trek. Trekkers cross high mountain crossings like the Kang La Pass and historic settlements. You can get a glimpse of these hidden regions’ traditional Tibetan-Buddhist culture by travelling this path. A hidden treasure in the Annapurna region is Nar Phu. You can view deep canyons, snow-capped summits, and other unusual sceneries en route.
On the other side, the world-famous Annapurna Circuit walk passes across a range of landscapes. The trail circumnavigates the Annapurna Massif, passing through terraced farms, traditional communities, and thick woods of rhododendron. It goes from emerald lowlands to arid desert at high altitudes. The high point of this section of the trail is the Thorong La Pass. The breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains make the challenging, high-altitude route worthwhile.
When combined, this Kang La Pass Trek and Thorong La Pass offer an experience that is unmatched. Trekkers experience Nepal’s rich cultural diversity in addition to the country’s breathtaking natural splendour. From the friendly hospitality of the people who dwell in the lower valleys to the ethereal aura of the mediaeval monasteries, every step is an adventure.
This Kang La Pass journey, which combines the Thorong La Pass with the best of the Annapurna region, is offered by Nepal journey Adventure. Trekkers will come away from this rich and diverse trip with lifelong memories.

One of the highlights is going over the difficult Kang La Pass, which provides expansive vistas as you head down towards Nagwal. The journey continues as you stroll through Manang, a town renowned for its lively local culture and serene surroundings. The journey reaches its pinnacle as the trail ascends to the well-known Thorong High Pass, and the breathtaking vistas make the strenuous trek worthwhile.
The tranquil town of Tatopani, which is well-known for its hot springs, and the sacred site of Muktinath are reached as the path descends from the pass. After there, the walk enters the lush Ghorepani region, which leads to the well-known Poon Hill viewpoint. The final leg of the journey is a drive back to Pokhara, where trekkers can take in the serene lakeside scenery and celebrate their accomplishments.

As you travel through several places on the Kang La Pass Trek with Thorong La Pass, your accommodations change. There are several lodges and tea houses along the Annapurna Circuit that offer simple yet cosy lodging with communal amenities. More basic hotel alternatives in the Nar Phu Valley provide a true window into local way of life. Be ready for lower temperatures at higher altitudes and anticipate basic accommodations with comfortable beds.
The majority of the food on the walk is healthy and locally produced; menus feature a variety of international, Tibetan, and Nepali dishes. The meals are simple, but they are meant to provide you the energy you need to walk. You may even have the opportunity to sample authentic Tibetan cuisine in the Nar Phu region. Because of its popularity among hikers, you’ll find more possibilities.
The Kang La Pass Trek with Thorong La Pass is rated as moderately to tough in terms of difficulty. Acclimatisation and physical condition are essential due to the altitude rise and difficult ascents and descents, particularly over the high passes. The secret to overcoming the difficulties presented by the high-altitude environment and guaranteeing a pleasurable trekking experience is careful planning and progressive acclimatisation.
A permit is required for this journey. In order to access the Annapurna Circuit, trekkers need to have both the TIMS (Trekkers’ Information Management System) card and the Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP). Furthermore, because of the area’s restricted access, a unique Nar Phu Restricted Area Permit is required for the Nar Phu valley. These permits, which are usually obtained with the assistance of trekking organisations or guides, help to preserve and manage the regions you’ll be visiting.
Travel insurance is not only a wise move, but also a must for a worry-free and safe trek up the Kang La Pass with Thorong La Pass. There are risks associated with this strenuous and distant walk because it crosses high mountain ranges and explores a variety of environments. Trekkers who have adequate travel insurance are protected against unanticipated circumstances including altitude sickness, medical problems, tour cancellations, and delays. It is especially crucial to get insurance that covers medical evacuation and treatment because of the combined trek’s varied terrains and altitudes. Furthermore, because some places are isolated and may have restricted access to medical services, insurance is essential in case of any unforeseen medical emergencies. Trekkers may completely embrace the journey with confidence knowing they have the required support if obstacles emerge, thanks to a comprehensive travel insurance policy. This covers anything from the physical demands of high-altitude hiking to unpredictable mountain weather.
